Amazon Runs One Million Robots, and Its Newest Site Needs More Maintenance Staff

Amazon announced on July 1, 2025 that it had put its one millionth robot into service, at a fulfillment center in Japan.

The company says robots now assist about 75 percent of its customer orders. And it introduced an AI model called DeepFleet that it says shortens robot travel time by about 10 percent.

Its next-generation site in Shreveport, Louisiana needs about 30 percent more people in reliability, maintenance, and engineering roles. The machines can move the boxes but people are needed to keep the machines running.

One lesson many places forget – when you add automation, budget for the maintenance and engineering roles it creates.
